2024 Best Reads Wrapped

As another 365 day cycle comes to end, I thought the books added into my shelf during this year also deserved their own version of a 2024 wrapped.

I´m obviously not Spotify, this won´t become a «the 2024 season come to an end» viral reel, but if you are looking for something to read this will come in handy. In the past months, I have met and «re-met» very interesting titles that you might like.

A very important disclaimer, the following books have not been organized in any paritcular order, more than 9 entered the team this year but only the MVP´s are making into the draft for this end of year posting.

Sharp Objects

Gyllian Flynn

A title and cover that is as thought provoking as the story contained within its pages. I have always been a junkie for great thrillers and Gillian Flynn doesn´t disappoint. If you enjoyed reading Gone Girl you are in for a treat. It is a page turner I finished in less than a week. I had quite a few gasps during my read specially when I discovered the meaning behind the novel´s title.

Daisy Jones & The Six

Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid hits it out of the park again with a unique view into the late 60´s and 70´s musical era. The L.A. scene comes to life in the voices of every character whose memories build a great mosaic of the history behind this fictional yet very real life feeling band. Written in an oral history format, it shows Taylor is always finding new ways of imprinting her books with great narrative resources.

You are a Badass

Jen Sincero

All the Sincero advice contained in this funny and witty book came into my life when I was going through my quarter life crisis and went into the bookstore looking for something to remind me of my worth. Jen taught me that even in the lowest moments I can always pick myself up if I decide to be a total badass taking away intrusive thoughts, subconscious chains and every day cheap excuses.

What Happened to you?

Bruce D. Perry and Oprah Winfrey

There are conversations we can´t avoid, and the most important ones take place in our own head. If you feel like you have unresolved memories, experiences and trauma, this book can be the beginning of a healing journey. Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey´s dialogue disects the human mind and the impact of our early childhood on ourselves in a masterly yet easily understandable way.

The Almanak of Naval Ravikant

Eric Jorgenson

I have never been a fan of the office book club selections (sorry boss), but this guide makes into this year´s best reads. A nonfiction work with a very interesting structure and about 4 different ways of reading it. If you are a soul learning how to navigate adult life like me, it gives very insightful advice gathered by Eric Jorgenson, who made a wonderful compilation of Ravikant´s knowledge.

Everything I Know About Love

Dolly Alderton

Dolly´s memoir made me wonder if I had a rather boring life during my college years, It also opened my eyes to a broader concept of love and how female friendships can be our most needed bond. A great example of how fun anecdotes can become epic. Her mac and cheese recipe will be very useful to any reader who decides to have a fun nightout.

Como Agua para Chocolate

Laura Esquivel

We “re-met” in 2024 since the tv series was coming up. Re reading this novel reminded me of how I fell in love with magic realism in my senior year Spanish Class. Every chapter is a savory recipe that keeps you hungry for more. Just as a cook looks for the best ingredients for their dishes, Laura Esquivel found the ideal words to craft a marvelous book that is part of an outstanding trilogy.

Cien Años de Soledad

Gabriel García Márquez

Another great classic of magic realism that was brought into streaming in 2024, I needed a trip back to Macondo to relive its charm. When I first read this book back in High School I decided would read all the books left behind by the great Gabriel García Márquez. This novel holds the magic of Latin America in its pages. I would highly recommend you to acquire the illustrated version.

En Agosto Nos Vemos

Gabriel García Márquez

Even though the title suggests this was an ideal August read, I was able to get a hold of a copy until late December. It was definetly worth the wait. This was a treasure hidden in García´s archives and published ten years after his departure by his children. It holds an interesting lens on strong female protagonist. The novel demonstrates that Márquez requires few words to captivate you. I read it in just one afternoon.

The reading shall continue, there are much books to be read, I hope you guys have a happy New Year and I hope 2025 becomes a year where dreams come true, something that can start with good books.

Till next year. Sincerely.
